KSB Group has been a trusted partner in Mexico’s mining sector for almost 70 years.

Mining is among the main economic activities in Mexico. It was first established as a formal, organized industry in 1521 with the discovery of mineral deposits in and around settlements. Those settlements would grow into magnificent cities as a result, and mining continues uninterrupted in Mexico to this day. Mexico’s mining industry drives employment and honors the country’s rich cultural legacy.

Mining and metallurgy contribute 2.3% to Mexico’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It ranks first in global silver production and is among the top 10 producers of 17 different minerals, including lead, cadmium, zinc, gypsum, salt, copper, and gold.

KSB Mexico is based in Querétaro City. Our facilities include a foundry with its own laboratory, a 2500m2 manufacturing plant, a test lab, and our KSB SupremeServ service and repair workshop. The foundry plant contains electric induction furnaces for cast iron, bronze, and stainless steel, and our foundry lab processes are certified ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018. KSB Mexico’s manufacturing plant produces pumps, valves, and related equipment — made entirely in Mexico — with the highest-quality technology and materials.

KSB Mexico’s engineering division customizes equipment to our customers’ needs and engineers pump systems for mining, water, and other applications. KSB’s pumps, pump set assemblies, and motors meet both national and international standards for quality and safety. The test lab is equipped to test equipment pressure, power, flow rate, vibration, temperature, and energy efficiency. In the KSB SupremeServ workshop, we provide our customers with technical expertise and consultation, installation and startup services, comprehensive maintenance and repair, project management, system efficiency service (SES), and a local supply of high-quality spare parts.

KSB Mexico is your partner for quality pump solutions for applications in water and wastewater, energy production, industrial manufacturing, and of course, mining.

Open pit-mining solutions in Mexico

One of the latest projects at KSB Mexico is the installation of the GIW® MDX 650 pump at a customer site. We collaborated with our KSB SupremeServ division to meet and exceed our customer’s goal of three months of continuous operation. We accomplished this goal with proper follow-up, adjustments, and preventive maintenance to the pump. The impeller lasted for six months, or two maintenance cycles. This extended wear life translates to substantial cost savings for our customer.

Mexico’s largest open pit copper mine has been in operation since 1899 and is one of the oldest operating in North America. The mine is home to UPA-UMA, KSB Mexico-produced submersible borehole pumps, in a variety of sizes. The pumps provide a continuous supply of fresh water for general use onsite. These pumps are designed for high-operating reliability and a long service life, and their flexibility makes them suitable for narrow deep wells and vertical, inclined, or horizontal installation.

GIW® LCC pumps are built for abrasive and corrosive slurry applications. The LCC-R is suitable for moderate heads, fine particles, and highly corrosive slurries while the LCC-M is used in applications with high heads and moderately corrosive slurries. KSB Mexico has recently completed assembly on LCC pump systems for installation at the same historic copper mine.

The GIW® MDX can tackle even the harshest mill duty conditions. The pump’s robust design combines superior hydraulics with long-wearing material technology to maximize productivity, and it minimizes costs by matching operating cycle time with scheduled downtime. KSB Mexico has installed its largest model to date, the MDX 650 L, at a polymetallic mine in Zacatecas, the largest open pit mine, and second largest silver mine, in Mexico. The mine also produces lead, zinc, and gold.
